On Sunday July 28 the congregation of Newport commissioned the delegation to go to Tanzania. We are excited to head out in less than a week!

School is in Session!

Today we visited one of the 6 Diocese schools in IPALAMWA with a very enthusiastic welcome. The just over 100 students welcomed us with a song and dance after a bumpy drive up the mountain. This secondary school is one of the smallest in the district and is the school that our Kimala village students attend. This school has helped over 500 students graduate. The teachers and students showed their gratitude for Newport’s support and our visit by gifting us with scarves after introducing themselves. We had fun seeing the 4 Kimala students who are supported with Scholarships from Newport ELIYA NYAMOGA SEFIANA KASUGA NAHUMU MLIMAKIFI LUPYANA MSUVA Then we drove to the district hospital in ILULA which has been serving the Iringa district for over 85 years! There is an operating theatre, an ambulance for emergencies (funded with donations), and a new mom and baby building getting built.

Back from Kimala.

Our time in Kimal village was indescribable. We can’t wait to share it all with you. Some children greeting us on the way home from school. The hardworking women who kept us well fed. Here they are doing dishes after lunch. The congregation gathered to meet us. There is a group of widows and widowers who do various projects to support themselves and their families. One of the projects is bee keeping and they sell the honey. We were given a plate of delicious honeycomb. The view from the top of the mountain where the Kimala Church is. Zanzibar

We spent this morning touring a spice farm. We got to taste cinnamon bark right off the tree! For lunch we had food prepared with the spices we saw and got to eat our fill of a variety of fresh fruit Then in the afternoon we walked around Stone Town, the historic part of Zanzibar. Now we are doing all sorts of last minute things before beginning our journey home tonight.
